Requiem for a Prayer

Not of this world
In which I live
And which I'll leave

I renounce my existence
As a mere reflection
Of You

You, the mirror
In which we see all things
Yet never see You

I came to believe
These things to be real
And You the grand illusion

But without You
Those things can't be
And of their own have no reason to be

The nothing between my praying hands
The nothing in our speaking mouths
The nothing that can't be

I never knew how to pray
To pray humbly
To pray

To have faith
Is to see the mirror
Beyond the things it shows

I see everything through You
And owe You my every breath
My homecoming, my death

You are my most fervent prayer
I love You with my will
I try to love You

Simple words
I give back to You
For of my own, I never had anything

In the beginning
Was the Word
And the Word was with God

And the Word was God

"To have faith
Is to see the mirror
Beyond the things it shows"

These lines blew me away. Gorgeous.
