The words by Jackie Kay - a Scottish writer - are from her novel Trumpet which was published in 1998. Here is the complete quote, on which I based my little text for this strip:

"When the love of your life dies, the problem is not that some part of you dies too, which it does, but that some part of you is still alive."

This is on page 36 of the paperback published by Picador.

In my version, you get alliteration in L in the first panel, internal rhyme in the mid panel, and awesome in the third. I wrote mine on my own just remembering the idea of the original, so it's not like I was looking at the original wondering how I could improve it, I just remembered the general idea and wrote my lil' text on this same idea. I post the original quote so you know what "words" I refer to in the strip.

Believe as you may.
Do not expect others to accept everything you believe.
If you can truly be yourself
even under such ridicule
without seething in negativity
then you have nothing to fear.

Another great strip, very emotional. You're kicking ass with these.

I like this series, it's profound in its simplicity. You also have nice writing!

Thank you very much!

That's one thing I like about comic strips: very little room, so you have to write efficiently, say a lot with few words, kind of like Hemingway's simple style.

As to my writing, it probably doesn't look like it, but it's hard work! I trace pencil lines first, by the millimeter, then handwrite the letters in pencil. Then I ink the letters carefully.

Comic strips look simple but they're really hard to make, and they take time! Mine is super simple, but even that takes me quite some time to do well.

Thanks for all the favs and kind words!
